The ‘unplugged’ wedding trend gains pace with up to a third of couples putting a social media ban over their big day

Couples can perfect their wedding social media strategy at an interactive workshop on 19 July at Sheraton Grand London Park Lane.

London, June 2017: Sheraton Grand London Park Lane surveyed the B.LOVED bridal community to understand attitudes towards social media and weddings in 2017 and found that more than 1 in 3 brides are opting for an unplugged wedding this year, following in the footsteps of Pippa Middleton, banning phones and other digital devices during the ceremony or reception. Half of respondents cited their guests missing key moments from the big day because they are on their phone as being the main reason for enforcing the ban.

With 85% of respondents saying that as a wedding guest, they share up to 10 posts on social media, it is clear that couples are feeling the pressure of being captured candidly on their wedding day. 44% also admitted they wouldn’t think to seek permission from the happy couple before posting, adding to a feeling of loss of control for the wedding party.

bloved3Couples are feeling social media anxiety well before they walk down the aisle. The research found that over 88% of respondents sometimes felt overwhelmed whilst planning their wedding due to all the online resources and ideas available on social media. Whether its falling down the ‘rabbit-hole’ of Pinterest or overloading on Instagram inspiration, the sheer volume of different wedding themes, trends and experiences is leading to brides-to-be suffering from social media-related, wedding anxiety.bloved

To help to remedy the problems highlighted by the research, Sheraton Grand London Park Lane will be hosting Wedding Social 101, as part of their year long partnership with B.LOVED, providing couples with inspiration, support and advice on how to positively channel the world of weddings on social media. The workshop will take brides-to-be on a journey of how best to use Instagram, Pinterest and other online resources to help them plan the best day possible as well as also providing insight on how to handle social media at the wedding itself.

Louise Beukes, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of B.LOVED, says “Social media is an amazing resource for brides and grooms to be, but it can also be an intimidating place for those new to the world of wedding planning. We’re not surprised to see the trend for shunning social gain in popularity as people are not sure the best way to handle it on the big day. We are excited to co-host this workshop at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane as social media is one of the most talked about topics and we would like to demonstrate how it can be used for good in wedding planning and be one less thing for you to worry about come the actual wedding day.”
