With all the focus on the bride and groom, it’s easy to let children’s entertainment slip at a wedding. Whilst children love the joyous occasion of weddings, they will require some form of amusement to help keep them entertained throughout the day. The good news is, with a bit of imagination and creativity, you can keep children entertained at a wedding without too much difficulty. If you’re getting married this summer or are attending a wedding with children, take a look at the following tips on keeping kids amused.
Have fun with garden games
Outdoor summer weddings provide the perfect opportunity for children to enjoy playing garden games, such as giant dominoes, Jenga and, of course, hide and seek.
Bring out the bubbles
Children of all ages simply can’t get enough of bubbles! Whether it’s getting a supply of bubble blowing tubes in and plenty of washing up liquid to top them up, or going the whole hog a hiring a bubble machine, bubbles are the ideal diversion for children at a summer wedding.
Dressing up
Weddings are all about dressing up to the maximum, from the bride’s stunning gown to the guests dressing like a million dollars. Why not maintain the dressing up theme at the wedding by bringing a box full of dressing up clothes?
Having the chance to dress up in superhero costumes, princess dresses, wigs and silly hats, is guaranteed to keep the children amused at wedding.
Get the children to excitedly rally round when they hear the familiar summer tune of the ice-cream van. They can all then line up and choose their favourite ice-cream!
Bouncy Castles
Bouncy castles make a great feature at outdoor summer events that involve children and none more so than at a wedding. Just remember to take photos for some great wedding snaps of family fun on the bouncy castle.
Get crafty
Whilst we hope for glorious sunshine and beautiful blue skies at a summer wedding, the weather can be unpredictable and it’s wise to have some indoor activities up your sleeve.
Children love to get creative by playing with arts and crafts and dedicating an area of the wedding venue to a ‘kid’s corner’, which is full of crayons, paper, playdough and pipe cleaners, will help keep little ones entertained.
Though it could be a good idea to refrain from giving them anything too messy to play with, such as paint and glue, or their beautiful wedding outfits might not look so beautiful for long!
Design their own wedding dresses!
When preparing activities for the children, think of wedding themes to generate some creativity and fun, such as ‘design your own wedding dress’, or making cards for the bride and groom.
Young photographers
You might be surprised but children can make great photographers and at a wedding they’ll have plenty of subjects to choose from. Equip youngsters with cameras designed for children and let them get snapping to their hearts’ content. Why not introduce some light-hearted competition, such as who can take the best picture of the bride in her dress?
A movie room
Another good way to keep children entertained in case the weather means a summer wedding is forced indoors is to create a movie room. Make the dedicated room cosy by adding some cushions, pillows and beanbags, set up a portable device that plays movies, and let your children relax with a great film.
A movie room can be a good way to get children to unwind before bedtime, after all the wedding excitement.
