Don’t tell the bride! Men need to do their homework

From the correct way to wear a wedding ring, to the tradition of the wedding breakfast, the results of a new Nuptial Knowledge quiz found that modern men still struggle with long established wedding traditions.

Produced by QHotels, who host hundreds of weddings each year, the Wedding IQ quiz pitted 500 men and women against each other  with the aim of finding out which sex knows more about getting married. The results show that 21st century men still have a lot to learn about weddings, with women storming to the lead.

Nearly half of men who took the quiz (45%) couldn’t name which finger the wedding ring traditionally sits on. Meanwhile, 68% were confused to which guests made up the ‘bridal party’, with 32% not realising that the groom is a part of it.

The men also struggled with famous weddings. Only 38% of men correctly identified that the Duke and Duchess of

Cambridge married in April 2011.

However, just a fifth (19%) of women knew that a traditional wedding cake is made up of fruit cake, with the majority (44%) thinking it was a Victoria sponge. The men are more clued up,  with a third (32%) of men getting this correct.

Both sexes struggled to guess that the average number of wedding guests is 64, with 44% of women getting it right, compared to 32% of men. The majority of both went for the option of 110 people as the average amount of guests.

One question that saw both men and women fail miserably was about the traditional meaning of the word ‘bride’. The majority of respondents opted for ‘virgin’, with only 9% of men and 12% of women selecting the correct answer of ‘cook’.

Claire Rowland, Director of Marketing at QHotels, said: “As we host hundreds of weddings each year we know a thing or two about them! Our offering is uniquely tailored to each and every couple.

“We usually have the bride's getting more involved with planning their wedding and from these results we can see why! We’d love the men to get a bit more involved with the organising, as a wedding should be a partnership between couples.”
