How could a bride and groom use bales at their wedding?
We find that hay and straw bales can be extremely versatile at a wedding. Bales can also be used as decoration and signage or could be built into tables, a bar or even be used as lawn games. Is it best to buy or hire bales for our wedding day?
The decision is totally upto the bride and groom. The benefits of hiring mean that the bales can be delivered prior to the wedding and then taken away afterwards allowing the happy couple, venue and anyone involved with clearing up after the wedding to not have the hassle of finding a somewhere for the bales to go. However, if your guests have allotments or pets who may be able to use the bales afterwards it might be worth buying the bales - this can make an unusual wedding favour!
Which would you recommend – Hay or Straw Bales?
We tend to recommend that it is best for you to use Straw Bales for your wedding, although it is entirely up to the individual. Straw Bales tend to be lighter to move around so if a bride and groom for example wanted to use the bales for their wedding ceremony seating and then wanted to move them for casual seating during the evening reception this would be possible. Straw bales are also brighter in colour which gives the ‘quintessential’ image that so many people have in their minds when they say they would like to use ‘hay bales’! However some people prefer the deeper brown of the hay bale for their wedding.
Are Hay and Straw Bales messy?
We can’t promise that Hay and Straw Bales are mess free but the bales are packed tightly but obviously some hay and straw will fall out of them. The more a bale is moved around the more likely it is to shed.
A good tip for those opting to use Hay and Straw Bales at their wedding is to work out exactly what you are using your bales for and where they are going to be positioned at the venue before they arrive, meaning the Bales can be put straight into position on arrival. Sometimes a bit of loose hay and straw can add to the wedding’s atmosphere. It is often worth having a broom to hand and putting the bales in place the day before the wedding so you can make sure the area is as clean and tidy as you would like prior to the wedding itself. Some venues have specific policies with regards to bale hire so it is worth double checking with them prior to ordering bales for your big day.
