As a stylist and wedding planner identifying trends is something that’s so important to keep on top of. While it’s always important not to go too over the top with ‘trend over timeless’ and risk your wedding photos looking dated, incorporating new and exciting elements can set you apart as one of the coolest, most creative couples.
Laura Holden, Creative Director at Holden Bespoke
Every year I see new trends emerging and although some have real sticking power (bunting is still hanging on!) one big trend emerging over the past couple of years is the overwhelming feeling that couples want to make their weddings more individual, personal and cohesive. Moving away from the generic hotel wedding we’re seeing a lot more dry hire venues where you can showcase your personality and include elements that make it your wedding, and not somebody else’s.
THE YEAR OF THE BACKDROP
Ceremony backdrops are having a moment in a big way. From oral arches and hanging installations to geometric creations. Talk to your orist about how you can bring orals to the forefront on your day and really make an impact.
MOVE OVER GOLD,THERE ARE NEW METALLICS IN TOWN
Gold is losing its lustre at the moment in favour of copper and rose gold. Workable with almost any colour palette under the sun these two metallics can be used
to give any wedding a dash of cool that’s a bit less bling. Jewellery, hair accessories, vases, stationery and props are all perfect ways to make your style shine.
TROPICAL TEMPTATIONS
Big palm fronds, amingos and pineapples are all the rage right now. Mixed with neon pops of pink this can be a really fun brief to work with and not only that it works in
so many venues as the colours can be kept really simple. Say aloha to this trend by nding some gorgeous stationery that uses a tropical motif and you’ll be right on the money.
GO BIG OR GO HOME
Bold colours and patterns have been on my radar for a while now. There’s something really fun about pushing the boat out and couples are really opting for this youthful, vibrant feel. Including patterned napkins, runners or just big, over the top orals are easy ways to incorporate this trend!
CHICKEN OR FISH?
Moving o the menu are more traditional sit-down choices like a British Roast dinner, instead you’re more likely to see a miniature
roast dinner served in a Yorkshire pudding served from a food truck. Couples are looking for fun ways
to incorporate foodie-oriented fare serve it in a fun and unusual way. I’ve seen burrito trucks, pancake and gelato stands the odd prosecco van popping up all over the place.
