Celebrating in style at Crabwall Manor - review

Crabwall Manor

Vows & Venues' managing editor Emma Hatherall took a trip to historic Chester for a relaxing spa weekend in a romantic setting. Read her review here…

Crabwall Manor is located a short taxi ride from the historic city of Chester and has a lot to offer whether you're looking for a wedding venue, a hen do or even just a chilled out spa weekend. Set in Mollington, it’s a stone's throw from all that Chester has to offer – the shopping, the horse racing, the history – Crabwall Manor still has that lovely country house feel to it. I took my Mum for an overnight spa break and we loved it

Planning a wedding on a budget in 2017

Diane Normile, wedding coordinator at Liverpool Marriott Hotel

Diane Normile, wedding coordinator at Liverpool Marriott Hotel, has more than 15 years’ experience in the industry and has managed more than 500 weddings. Here, she predicts trends for 2017 and offers her top tips for planning the perfect big day.

“The planning stage of a wedding has shifted from a typical two years in advance of the big day to as little as two months, and there are an increasingly number of couples who would rather opt for a low-key, intimate wedding with only their immediate family and friends. These days, people simply have other financial priorities, so there’s been a shift towards more bespoke ceremonies that are easier on the budget.

Social Media Etiquette (Infographic)

Social Media Etiquette (Infographic)

It’s a modern day problem to an age old traditional day: social media and whether to allow it on your wedding day. With smartphones being ubiquitous in our world today, social media is simply very much part of many people’s daily lives and a wedding day is just another moment to share.

Many couples have no issue whatsoever with this and might not even contemplate it in the lead up to their wedding while others discuss it and decide on whether to ban it or allow it. It’s not uncommon to attend a wedding to find a sign at the door asking you to refrain from posting photos to social media; of course there’s the opposite also where you’ll see a sign asking you to post to a specific hashtag!

Are we seeing an end to the traditional White Wedding in the UK? According to research, just 1 in 5 couples want to have a formal wedding, something that is traditional. In addition 30% of couples would rather get married in a hotel compared to just 9% who would opt for a church service.

Things to know about getting married abroad

Things to know about getting married abroad

Pros

It can save pounds - Nuptials abroad are definitely cheaper than weddings in the UK, which approximatly cost around £25,000. By getting wed abroad, couples can have a holiday as well – so the weeks after the big day can be spent in relaxing, warm surroundings.

Low peak bargains- If flexible about wedding date, then brides should consider getting married out of season. This is when villa rates are much lower, to save even more cash and still have a fabulous day.

The Best Western Cresta Court Hotel, Altrincham making the most of your wedding budget

PAUL HINDLEY, GENERAL MANAGER OF THE BEST WESTERN CRESTA COURT HOTEL:

One of the most difficult parts to a wedding can be monitoring the budget.  With the average budget often overstepping the £20,000 mark and a wealth of amazing wedding choices to make, it can be difficult to know where you can save money in your budget - whilst still getting the dream style you want for your big day. We work with bridal parties of all sizes and budgets, and have learnt a thing or two about saving them money where nobody will notice, whilst investing the money where it really counts.

The Barton Grant Hotel going Al Fresco

DANIEL RICH, GENERAL MANAGER OF THE BARTON GRANGE HOTEL:

“As the summer approaches the thoughts of bridal parties often turn to the advantages of going Al Fresco for their wedding, and the extra special touch it can add to a wedding.  There’s lots of different ways you can incorporate ‘Al Fresco’ into your special day. Whether it’s going the whole way and holding the entire day outside or just adding a few special touches, it’s something that can be easily catered for.
