Planning a wedding on a budget in 2017

Diane Normile, wedding coordinator at Liverpool Marriott Hotel, has more than 15 years’ experience in the industry and has managed more than 500 weddings. Here, she predicts trends for 2017 and offers her top tips for planning the perfect big day.

“The planning stage of a wedding has shifted from a typical two years in advance of the big day to as little as two months, and there are an increasingly number of couples who would rather opt for a low-key, intimate wedding with only their immediate family and friends. These days, people simply have other financial priorities, so there’s been a shift towards more bespoke ceremonies that are easier on the budget.

To cater for your dream 2017 wedding without blowing the bank, think about where you can make cut-backs without taking away from your special day. Hot fork buffets, BBQ or carvery options for your wedding breakfast can offer a nice twist and are often a little cheaper. Table centres and decorations aren’t always necessary, as traditional white linen is very on trend and is often included. Table plans and menus are sometimes provided by your venue, so make sure you ask, and speak to a planner for additional budgeting advice.

Some venues also offer excellent packages for those with a smaller budget, so don’t rule out any of your dream locations too early. The Liverpool Marriott, for example, has just launched a wedding package for only £1,000. It caters for 25 guests and includes a four course wedding breakfast, wine, fizz, exclusive hire of Olivier's Restaurant, overnight accommodation and a one month gym membership for the bride and groom to be.  We noticed a real demand for more intimate ceremonies in the area and wanted to offer a premium product without being too expensive, so make sure you ask around before striking anything off your list, as you might be surprised by how far your budget could go.
